free switch converter

how can I stop from losing my TV because of the analog to digital switch?

Ok so this is the deal. I got a converter box and I scanned and go NOOO channels. I like in a mountain range area right against a ledge and the TV towers are on the top of the mountain so basically the signal goes right over me. When I had analog I got 4 or 5 channels but now I get NONE! Is there anything I can do so I get channels? Can I hire someone to set up the right kind of antenna or something for me? I don’t want to resort to paying for satellite I still want FREE tv! Thanks

(This answer assumes you are located in the US)

After June 12th, try scanning your converter box again because some stations are changing frequencies and power levels on the day of the change.

As to whether another antenna would allow you to pick up stations, no one on the Yahoo answers could know that. However, what antenna would have the best shot at receiving them depends on your location. Information like: ZIP code of TV transmitters, type of antenna used, and quality & channels of analog reception might allow for an educated guess.

Other things to consider:

Do you have high speed Internet service? Web sites like http://www.hulu.com offer quite a bit of free TV programing. Don’t waste your money on companies selling software for “satellite internet”.

Would it be possible to locate a TV antenna on top of the ledge? TV signals can be sent through several 100 feet of coax cable.

There is free (legal) satellite TV service available in the US, but the kind of channels you can get are not the kind most people want to watch. Mostly things like religous, foreign, and government.

The free TV satellites (and Dish & Direct TV for that matter) orbit over the equator. You have to have a clear line of sight to the satellite for reception, so if you don’t have an unobstructed view of the southern sky you can’t get any kind of satellite TV.
